Description
Charlie Chaplin Movie Fest For the second week of RCT Drive-In Movies on Friday September 11th and 12th we will be presenting two of Charlie Chaplin classical films; The Tramp and The Gold Rush. Movies will start at 8 pm and admission is $10.00 a carload. Their will be refreshments offered before and during intermission. 1. The Tramp (1915) Charlie is a tramp on the road. A hobo manages to exchange Charlie's sandwich for a brick so Charlie must eat grass. The same hobo molests a farmer's daughter; Charlie comes to aid with the help of the brick. When two more hobos show up Charlie throws all three into a lake. The grateful girl takes Charlie home where he fails as a farmhand. He again helps drive off the hobos (who are now trying to break into the house). The girl's fiancé arrives. Though a hero, Charlie, knowing he must go, writes a farewell note and leaves for the open road. 2. The Gold Rush (1925) This is the movie that Chaplin himself wanted to be remembered for. The film is basically a romantic comedy where Chaplin plays the role of a tramp who wants to strike it rich during the Alaskan Gold Rush. When released in 1925, the movie was called the best comedy film ever made in Hollywood. It’s no wonder that it made truckloads of money at the box office and is financially one of the most successful movies Chaplin made. The movie won Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Recording and Best Music.
