Griffiss Social Activities Club Archives

The Chamber, in cooperation w/ GLDC and Griffiss employers, is working to create an atmosphere at the Park that assists employers in maintaining and growing a productive workforce. Employees of Griffiss civilian firms and military organizations are volunteering their time as members of GSAC and exploring various entertainment, cultural, and recreational options that Park employees might enjoy. Planning Meeting

Members of GSAC, a committee of the Chamber that meets regularly to organize events and activities for employees at Griffiss Business & Technology Park, met early in August at Oneida Savings Bank to recap summer '07 happenings (the “Parties at the Park” in June and July, the golf outing in June, establishment of the GSAC golf league) and begin planning for fall/winter events.

Incidentally, shown in the background of the above pic is one of several historical photos in the bank’s conference room denoting the Griffiss timeline, from the WWII era to today. Circa 1943, it’s a picture taken during the Rome Air Depot’s Employee Appreciation Day (the depot was established in 1942, went thru numerous name changes and re-designations until 1948 when it was renamed in honor of Lt. Col. Townsend Griffiss of Buffalo, an Army Air Corps pilot who died in an aircraft accident in England in 1942 -- the first US airman to lose his life in the European Theater during WWII).
