Auditions for Wait Until Dark Under the direction of Arnold Galin, the Rome Community Theater will be holding audition for Frederick Knott’s suspect thriller “Wait Until Dark” on February 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm at 8911 Turin Road in Rome NY. Show dates are April 6-9 A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match. They have traced the location of a mysterious doll, which they are much interested in, to the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam had apparently been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border, not knowing that sewn inside were several grams of heroin. When the woman is murdered the situation becomes more urgent. The con man and his ex-convicts, through a cleverly constructed deception, convince Susy that the police have implicated Sam in the woman's murder, and the doll, which she believes is the key to his innocence, is evidence. She refuses to reveal its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out she is the victim of a bizarre charade. But when Roat kills his associates, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues between the two. Susy knows the only way to play fair is by her rules, so when darkness falls she turns off all the lights leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the game ends. The cast calls for 6 men, 1 female and 1 girl. Mike Talman Professional Conman As the name implies he is tall at least taller than Suzy. He has spent time in jail and has pulled many cons with Carlino. Mike Talman is not his real name. It is a name given to him by Roat for the con. He should be very likable and charismatic but also have a dark side. He has to carry a major portion of the show. Sgt. Carlino Not as likeable as Mike. Perhaps a little older or looks older than Mike. He is not quite as good at this con business as Mike but it is the only work he knows. He is nervous about the whole business. He is a follower and follows Mike’s lead. Carlino is not his real name At some points we feel sorry for him. Should look good in a hat. Harry Roat Jr. Very creepy man. Only interested in himself and will do anything to further his lust for drugs and money. He plays himself and two other characters in this play. Suzy Hendrix Blinded in an accident as an adult, Suzy is still adjusting to her blindness. She is married to Sam. Suzy is very likeable. She has a good sense of humor but is not silly. She wants to be on her own but relies heavily on Sam. She is small in stature compared to Mike Talman and therefore physically vulnerable. She is smart and very trusting of others. Sam Hendrix He is a photographer and this is how he makes his living. Very likeable and almost fatherly with Suzy. He was a Marine and is very organized. We trust him immensely. He is very good with Gloria and will act as a go between with her and Suzy. Sam is not on stage a lot but it is important that he have great chemistry with Suzy. Gloria Young girl between 9 and 12. She lives upstairs from Suzy and Sam and they have been paying her to assist Suzy with chores and shopping. She hasn’t had much experience around adults other than Sam and Suzy. Her father doesn’t live in the house with her mother and her and we get the impression her mother is more interested in men than Gloria. She doesn’t like to be told what to do and acts out when she is upset. She really wants Sam to like her and is very strong when put in charge.
