Description
Clinton, NY | The Kirkland Art Center is hosting Reggae band Taj Weekes and Adowa on Friday, November 2, 2018. Doors open at 7:30pm and the concert starts at 8:00pm. General Admission is $20 and KAC Member tickets are $10. He’s a musician, he’s a poet, he’s a humanitarian. Through his work with UNICEF and his charity They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO), Taj Weekes dedicates his time to improving the lives of Caribbean youth through sports, health and enrichment programs as he spreads the love and helps support those in need. Who is Taj Weekes? The short answer is that he is a dreadlocked Rastafarian musician, bred in the Caribbean but shaped by an intercontinental life experience. A more accurate picture is that he is a creative, poetic singer-songwriter who fronts a dynamic reggae band named Adowa. Through his social activism and official role with the United Nations as ‘UNICEF Champion for Children’, Taj Weekes lives life to the fullest. Adowa are a talented collection of musicians from different cultures and backgrounds. While the band members do change over time, you might see a bassist from Dominica seeped in soca, a classically trained keyboardist from Barbados, a Jamacian reggae drummer, and others from all over the Caribbean Islands. The name Adowa harks back to the Battle of Adowa in 1896, which ensured the sovereignty of Ethiopia, and proved a critical event in the advancement of African Independence and pride.
