Description
For Immediate Release Theater Workshop Series If you are interested in learning new theater skills, the Theaters Helping Theaters group is offering a series of workshops. The Theaters Helping Theaters group is a collaboration among local theaters in an effort to pool resources, share expertise, continue to learn and grow as we encourage all aspects of the art form. Whether a beginner with the urge to become involved or a seasoned veteran, working together the theater community will be enhanced and flourish. The goal is to focus on the many varied aspects of the theatrical production. This year we have scheduled a series of workshops held in the Utica-Rome area. This is the third workshop in our series. This Workshop is on Theatrical Makeup Design, it will be Saturday, April 29, 10am – 2pm at Grace Church, 7 Devereux Street, Utica NY. This workshop will cover the basics of stage makeup. How to create texture, bruises and how to age a character, and how to create special effects. A portion of this workshop will be a hands on makeup teaching session. The Makeup Design Workshop is presented by Will Lanfear a Special Effects Makeup Artist, specializing in special effects and building prosthetics. Will is the Head Makeup and Special FX Coordinator at the New York State Preparedness Training Center. He has worked in over 50 theatrical productions, both on stage and off, in countless theatres across Central New York. Lanfear has worked as a makeup artist for a number of colleges, high schools, community theatres and community organizations. Along with theatrical productions, Lanfear also worked as a makeup artist from 2008- 2014 for the Utica Zombie Walk, an event to collect donations and get the community together and safely swarm downtown for an hour. Lanfear also was the lead makeup designer/artist for six collegiate fashion shows: two at Bentley University, one at Colgate University, and three at Utica College. In 2011, Lanfear worked with designer Heather Neil on an ad campaign for the Munson William Proctor Arts Institute in Utica for their Great Utica Wedding March. Lanfear assisted with the special effects side of the advertising campaign which featured photographs from his zombie wedding creation. Some of his favorite makeup credits include THE ADDAMS FAMILY with Summer Stage, ANGELS IN AMERICA with Walk the Boards Productions, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR with Players of Utica/Utica College, and THE PILLOWMAN with Utica College. The cost for the workshop $20 Adults, High school and college students free with ID. Register online at www.RomeCommunityTheater.org or call 315-339-2545.
