COMETS TO HOST PRESEASON CONTEST IN ROME Tickets still availableUtica Comets President Robert Esche has announced that the club will host a preseason contest at the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena on Fri, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The Comets will face the Adirondack Flames in their lone exhibition game in the Mohawk Valley. All tickets to the game will be $5 and the proceeds from the game will be donated to the Arena. 600 were sold Saturday September 6, and a limited amount of tickets remain available for purchase. Remaining tickets will go on sale Tuesday September 9th through Wednesday September 24th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Rome Recreation Office, Rome City Hall. Tickets must be purchased in person. Last season, the Comets hosted the Adirondack Phantoms at Kennedy Arena on Sept. 29, 2013 in front of a sold-out crowd. Utica defeated Adirondack, 4-2, in the Mohawk Valley's first opportunity to catch a glimpse of the team in action!

This timeless play is the story of Inari and Musoka, two young people who experience love, loss and friendship while attempting to deal with the reality of life. Audiences will identify with the struggles and joys of the two characters, while the lyrical writing will quickly engage everyone. Directed by Denise Borek Morganti and assisted by Adrian Maggio, the play stars two local talents, Merissa Marthage and Dan Goewey. Miss Marthage has recently been seen in the acclaimed play, “Kindertransport” while Goewey has been the star of several musicals. Audiences won’t want to miss their chance to see the premiere of this whimsical tale. The play will be presented October 24 and 25 at 7:30 PM and on October 26 at 2:30 PM.

Wreaths Across America Day at the Rome, Evergreen

Time: 12:00 pm  

Location: The Rome, Evergreen and Westernville Presbyterian Cemeteries, Rome, Stokes and Westernville, NY

Sponsored by: Greater Rome Utica Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America

In conjunction with the National Wreaths Across America Organization, remembrance wreaths will be placed on veteran graves at three local cemeteries. At 12 noon a ceremony will take place at each cemetery where wreaths will be placed at the entrances for our military services followed by the placing of wreaths on veteran graves throughout the cemeteries.Rome area businesses are encouraged to sponsor wreaths for the general public to place.If you want to sponsor wreaths you can go to wreathsacrossamerica.org, click on the Sponsor Locally tab. On this page enter NY0004P in the "Find the Fundraising Group" box. Then choose the cemetery you wish to support.Help is also needed in the organization of the events and the ceremonies. Information on any soldier's accomplishments can be provided for inclusion in the brochures made for each ceremony.
