The Rome Community Theater is proud to be the host for the premiere of the original play,“The Summer Fox”. Written by local author, Eric Almleaf, “The Summer Fox” is an enchanting story which is reminiscent of Japanese folklore with an overlay of anime. This timeless play is the story of Inari and Musoka, two young people who experience love, loss and friendship while attempting to deal with the reality of life. Audiences will identify with the struggles and joys of the two characters, while the lyrical writing will quickly engage everyone. Directed by Denise Borek Morganti and assisted by Adrian Maggio, the play stars two local talents, Merissa Marthage and Dan Goewey. Miss Marthage has recently been seen in the acclaimed play, “Kindertransport” while Goewey has been the star of several musicals. Audiences won’t want to miss their chance to see the premiere of this whimsical tale. The play will be presented October 24 and 25 at 7:30 PM and on October 26 at 2:30 PM.

FIRE ON ICE II: HOCKEY GAMES IN ROME The Washington, DC Fire Department Hockey Team will be in Rome to play two benefit games against a group of Central New York firefighters, including members of the Utica and Rome FD’s. The games will be hosted by the Burn Foundation of CNY at the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena on Saturday, November 8. Game 1 will feature the Utica & Rome FD vs. the Syracuse FD; 3:30pm start. Game 1 will be followed by a free admission Public Skate with the players (skate rentals available at the arena) from 5pm-6pm. Game 2 will pit the CNY Flame vs. the Washington DCFD; 6:30pm start. Chinese, Silent Auctions, and Raffles too! Tickets for the event are $5 and include both games and the free admission Public Skate. All proceeds from the game will benefit the Burn Foundation of CNY. Tickets are now available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Rome Recreation Office Suite 2D, 2nd Floor, Rome City Hall.

In conjunction with the National Wreaths Across America Organization, remembrance wreaths will be placed on veteran graves at three local cemeteries. At 12 noon a ceremony will take place at each cemetery where wreaths will be placed at the entrances for our military services followed by the placing of wreaths on veteran graves throughout the cemeteries.Rome area businesses are encouraged to sponsor wreaths for the general public to place.If you want to sponsor wreaths you can go to wreathsacrossamerica.org, click on the Sponsor Locally tab.
