The Utica-Rome area again ranks high in the nation and the region for home affordability, according to the 1998 last-quarter survey by the National Association of Home Builders.
The Utica-Rome metro area ranks 9th nationally in the top 10 most affordable metro areas in the nation. The area's affordability index is 87.7, which means people in the area making the median income could afford 87.7 percent of the homes on the market. The area's median income was $37,700. (Median means half the people make more than $37,700 and half make less).
The median price of homes in the Mohawk Valley hovers around $65,000.
